Orthene Usage And Synthesis |
Chemical Properties | White Solid |
Usage | Contact and systemic insecticide |
General Description | A white solid. Used as a contact and systemic insecticide. |
Air & Water Reactions | Soluble in water. |
Reactivity Profile | A thiophosphate ester. Organothiophosphates are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides. |
Biological Activity | Anticholinesterase insecticide that produces cholinotoxicity. Displays weak inhibition of rat acetylcholinesterase (AChE) but potently inhibits cockroach AChE. |
